White Lies
You taught me how to lie
when I was innocent and pure
white lies
you called them
I imagined whiteout
covering up
all your inconvenient truths
helpful really
in this rough draft called life
Teaching me this I learned
to hate myself
and all my inconvenient truths
stumbling in my youth
upon such helpful things
as masks
and deception
mastering manipulation
until my beauty was left
unrecognizable
buried beneath countless layers
of untruths
the harm we do when we are blind
unaware we are the sun
moon and stars
cloaked in darkness
cheating the world out of our light.
